About Angus Breeders of Texas (ABOT)
The Angus Breeders of Texas (ABOT) is an organization dedicated to the promotion, raising, and marketing of Angus cattle. This initiative is supported by a committed team that voluntarily contributes their time and resources. ABOT was established with the purpose of supporting small breeders and aims to foster a community of excellence, education, and innovation within the Angus cattle industry. Additionally, ABOT supports charitable causes, giving back to others simultaneously.
In addition to ABOT’s annual consignment sale, the organization offers free educational sessions to its members on topics such as health and nutrition, pasture preparation, feed efficiency, marketing of cattle, breeding, and culling of cattle, among other current issues as they arise.
Each year during the sale, a charity is selected to receive the proceeds from a donated animal from one of the members. Notably, The American Cancer Society has been the chosen beneficiary in four of the five years that the sale has been hosted.
Looking ahead to the 2025 sale, one of ABOT’s goals is to invest in youth, recognizing their importance to the future of the agricultural industry. Several members have children who are active in the industry and support the sale. ABOT is exploring ways to involve local 4-H and FFA organizations in its initiatives.
In summary, ABOT organizes and hosts an annual consignment sale, handling all aspects from marketing to selling the cattle and distributing the funds to benefit small Angus breeders. The organization provides education to its members about the cattle industry and contributes to the community, with plans to extend its educational outreach to youth in 2025.
